Everyone at my office is sick or feeling crappy. I'm sure it's a matter of time before I catch the pig flu or other bug.

The first person in my department was diagnosed with it. I work in a hospital and the protocols for this cracks me up! I do not do actual patient care at this point (deal with insurances) But the policy is:
You diagnosed with it then you are automatically off AT LEAST 5 days if you take tamiflu or 7 days if you do not take it. You must then be symptom free, fever free without drugs for 24 hours (THAT I GET.....)

But if you are exposed to it, you are given tamiflu for the next 5 days and you have to where a mask while at work. (FINE.....)

EXCEPT....if you work in my department that has the staff packed into every square inch with no ventalation. We were denied tamiflu (not cost effective) until my manager went postal reminding them how much it will cost the hospital IF our staff comes down and all out for 7 days. We dont do our job, then NOBODY gets paid (there are time restrictions on us doing our job...usually 24 hours!) Well certain higher risk individuals were given tamiflu...NOT ME! Oh well!

My best friend was able to come home from the hospital today, woohoo! Hopefully she can stay home. She is on strong medication for 2 more weeks and is not allowed to go back to work for 1 1/2 weeks (as long as she's better by then). In total she'll have missed 3 weeks of work.

Scary stuff! The most important thing is not to get close to sneezing/coughing people and wash your hands a lot!

Wow, guess I just had the normal fever as all I had was fever and loss of appetite, my body would not hold any food down for the 2 1/2 days that I was sick

Sparky, he learned from the master! :)

Mel, the hospital world must have had a big meeting this week. My hospital's new policy: Call supervisor with "flu-like" symptoms. Supervisor has a cute little symptom log to fill out for each person who calls (date of symptom onset, fever 101 or greater, cough, sore throrat, nasal drainage, shortness of breath, other, family members sick - a whole checklist to go through). Employee health will review the information and let you know when you can go back to work, but if flu is determined, minimum of seven days unless you work from home. Since I work from home, I can go back to work the next day! :cheesy: Yeah, right....

I hope you don't get sick! I hope nobody else does either!
