Hello all. A few months back I posted a forum topic on the biocube.
Originally I was going to get one of those. And here I am, months later with no tank. (Actually no tank(s). I accidentaly broke the glass on my freshwater tank )

Anyways, Im hungry for fish (in a metaphorical way of course ;D) and I need some advice.

I need a tank. But I have a few requirments.

    1. I dont want to break the bank. Perhaps an all-in-one unit?
    2. It has to be quite - it will be going in my room
    3. It cant be a huge monstrosity (unfortunantly) - again, becuase it's going in my room.

Since this thing is going in my room, I'm thinking a nano-tank would be a good idea. Especially since im new to saltwater - keep things small. (how about a 30 gal.?)

(Also, yes I now larger tanks are usually easier to start with.)

Anyways, suggestions would be great! :)

Little Update: Well, I still like the idea of the biocube, or maybe an aquapod. What do you think? I really want a small system that will fit on my desk, with a few fish, corals and inverts.

UPDATE: I have decided to go with the biocube. I will probably upgrade the lighting. wish me luck

I think a 50 breeder 36x18x18 is a good size tank. A nice T5 setup would light it up real well.

My setup for my clown spawning and anemone cloning is pretty inexpensive. Its a pair of 40 breeders on a double stand, one the tank, one the refugium. Both tanks and stand came in just over $200.

The Red Sea Max 130D is a popular design. Its ~34 gallons, all-in-one, and the deluxe has some nice upgrades (new skimmer). There is also the Solana which is very nice as well. I'm not a huge fan of the JBL or Oceanic nano/biocubes, but that is just me. Do some research and look around for things you want in your system. The issue with all-in-one systems is they are not easily upgraded. Building your own system has the benefits of upgrading and growing when you want to grow.

a 36x18x18 is a good choice but for me personally, I would want my whole room as an aquarium lol::);):cheesy:

You may be able to save more money by buying the equipment separately then with an all-in-one. Look for stuff on Ebay or craigslist, they are both great resources. Plus, the equipment that comes with most of those all-in-one tanks is not good, in particular the skimmer and lighting.

GuitarMan is right, generally the stuff that comes with the all-in-one is second rate. You will do just as well or better with separately purchased stuff.

Unfortunately, 50 gallons is much too big for my already packed room.

Great price, but unfortunately, I don't have that kind of room. Once I get permission for the basement though.....;D
