I noticed that once i fixed my powerheads from making so much bubbles, i got a coating of film at the top of the water, does this mean it needs more flow or is this normal?

Do you have an overflow on your tank?

It means the top of the water is not being agitated enough, point the power heads up to cause a ripple in the top of the water this will help with the gas exchange and cause the film to go away

If the tank has no overflow, this film will simply move a little and the ripples will not help as much as if the whole top of the water had no scum on it.

Aiming the PH's up to make ripples is better than no ripples at all though.

Keep in mind this film not only reduces the gas exchange, but it blocks light to get to corals and other light using critters.

What kind of skimmer do you have? If there is a surface skimmer attachment available (or you can DIY one), adding one would be a good idea.

When I had my 35g with no sump for a while, I ran a CPR bakpak2r skimmer with the surface skimmer attachment. it worked much better with this attachment, and got rid of the film.
