Wow. Times are changing. My Dad wouldn't like this. Not sure I do either. Maybe the Scouts are just trying to keep kids interested? ::)

as an eagle scout i am shocked. while yes i love video games. boy scouts is about being active and the outdoors. making pointed sticks and having fun. I think this is horrible for boy scouts.

I think it's nice they're raising awareness about the age "requirements" of games... the way it's worded it could raise that awareness in the parents too...

having said that... I would still say this is a fail

but you got to be realistic. kids are going to play video games. it's better to teach them the proper way than it is to pretend like you're only going to be playing outside. I don't believe in teaching abstinence for video games or anything else... I think teaching a safe way is better than ignoring it.

so I guess I'm for this... maybe. weird.

Being an Eagle Scout myself, I thought the main reason of the boy scouts was to get kids interested in outdoor activities?

Obviously there are a lot of indoor related merit badges, but this one seems a bit hokey.

I think it is setting a bad president for our youth who are the most obese and unhealthy in the world.

As a fellow Eagle Scout (2001), I think this is an excellent idea. Sure the Scout's are about being active in the outdoors, and practical knowledge, but given the state of the current generation of kids, this is a wonderful idea. I am only 26 right now, but when I was younger, things were MUCH different. Back in the days of the NES, Sega, and Atari, friends would get together and play a few games sometime, but a VAST majority of our time was spent outdoors.

In the now generation, things are MUCH different. Every 10 year old has a cell phone, and there are many more game systems to choose from, home & portable, not to mention the internet. Seeing the way children of friends behave, it's sad to see kids just wasting away in front of the TV/computer playing games all day without doing anything productive.

I think this is nice in that it shows it is ok to play video games, but in moderation, and to not neglect other aspects of their lives.
