So I stuck my thermometer on the inside of my tank last night(Doesn't have any water in it yet, and it fell off in the middle of the night, and the bottom broke.

Do the thermometers have mercury inside them, on the little black beads? Should I be worried? Or should I just vacuum it.

    Thanks for the help

If the red stuff is still there than there is no problem. It most likely is alcohol anyways. The beads are steel or lead for ballast.. Buy a new thermometer and throw that one away. Vacuum up what is inside.

It's not a big deal at all, I've had one break inside my tank before. There's no mercury in it, the balls are steel, no big deal, just clean it up and your good to go.

Just for reference, mercury is silver. The red ones are alcohol.

True, and to my knowledge, mercury is no longer used in any modern thermometer, it's way too dangerous.

nothing like taking a baby's temperature by sticking a paper thin glass tube filled with poison metal in it's orifices .
