I see some fairly major issues I want to point out. First, why did you take the rock out of the tank that was in it? You not only have not provided any place for your fish to hide or feel safe, but you also eliminated a very large percentage of available surface area for your biological filtration to colonize. You most likely prolonged your cycle. Give it's such a small tank, I would cure all rock before putting it into the tank and that will take a few weeks too. I think you really set yourself back by taking the rock out.

Second, don't do any more water changes while your tank is cycling. Again, you are just prolonging it. I understand your concern for your fish, and I share that concern, but you choose to cycle with the fish and you have to stick with it. Hopefully he makes it through the cycle.

If this was my tank, I would add the rock back into the tank. Ugly rock is 100% better than no rock. You can change it out later on or just break it up into pieces. I would also let nature takes its course. Feed very lightly to avoid excess nutrients and higher ammonia levels. Once your ammonia is down to 0ppm and nitrite is at 0ppm, then I would start adding more livestock, but very slowly. I think your above fish list is too much, especially given you have no rock in there. Also keep in mind the firefish are jumpers and they will jump, it's just a matter of time, especially in a small tank. I hope you heed this advice.

*stretches* ahh that was good lol. i have a feeling your yelling at me. anyway there was only 1 rock in there at the time. as for my livestock i dont think it's too much; the fish dont grow to be very big. as for me cycling with the maroon dont try to make me the bad guy; i didnt choose to nor did i want to but unfortunately the person who wanted to buy this off of me couldnt pay me and i cant take it to my LFS so i had to cycle with it. I'm not gonna let the fish starve in a bucket... but fine if you insist i'll put the LR back in although IMO it's very unaquascapable lol. Also i mentioned somewhere at the beginning of this thread that i wasnt putting any LR in this tank... except for the fuge... :-/

Man you are sensitive. He wasn't yelling at you he was trying to help you.If you would have taken my advice last time I was also trying to help you little buddy. When I was your age I had an older gentlemen encourage me to read and I to this day thank god for him. Also you have to stick with one plan and work to accomplish it. Not wake up every day with a new one. Also I see you keep complaining about the shape of your Live Rock. Take a hammer and a beach towel wrap the rocks in it and smash them a couple times. Even if they are smaller you will be creating more surface area on them AND you will get cool shapes.Put the rock back in and don't touch anything except the rodi and your test kit. Again I am not yellin at ya I am helping you. If you have any questions PM me anytime and I will be happy to help or post away.8)

    Both +1

These guys are only trying to help. Some very Good points in both these posts that you should really think about. For the good of your tank and your own knowledge, be open minded to advice.

Remember, you're here to learn about the hobby. We all are. Be open minded and take some constructive criticism from those who are trying only to help you with their opinions.

The tank and it's inhabitants need stability above all. The more you change the more the tank gets set back. Don't worry about the way the rock looks. As more stuff grows it'll look better. For the aquascaping try leaning the larger rocks on top of the smaller ones.
