I am pretty confused by lighting choices--will not go reef for a few months, but would rather go LED than T5. I don't even know what PAR is, means, etc. That's how clueless I am. Anyway, I ran across these--would they be good for a 65g (36x18x24). I'm not sure exactly what type of corals I will be getting--most likely the easiest to keep!

[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica]PAR is the abbreviation for Photosynthetically Active Radiation which is the spectral range of solar light from 400 to 700 nanometers that is needed by plants & symbiotic zooanthellic algae (Zooxanthellae are single-celled plants that live in the tissues of animals such as corals, clams, anemones, & nudibranchs) for photosynthesis.

BoostLED are decently made from what Ive read and seen...

Aquarium Lighting; Reef, Planted Light Information. PAR, Bulb, Watt, Kelvin, Nanometers, MH, LED.

Yes, they should be great. To start you may need 3, with probably 60 deg optics to cover the footprint of your tank. If you think you may do light-loving "SPS" type corals, you may need 40 degree optics, but then you may also need to go with 4 or 5 (or more). However, you can probably keep a fair amount with 3 60 degree bulbs. Whether or not you need more is sort of tough to say. Just depends how quick you get addicted LOL.

Yes the boostled par30 bulbs are an excellent product. Assuming you have a center brace so 3 would not work well, or any odd number of lights. I would go with 4 with 40 degree optics.

Thanks for the info guys--do lights come in different degrees or is that something I change once I get them? Also, how does one go about having a moonlight with lights like these? Would that be a separate purchase?

The only concern I have about going with LEDs over T5s is that with T5s I can change the color "tint" (for lack of a better word) more easily. Most LEDs I see are too white for my taste--I'd like a hint more of blue. Can this be done with LEDs?

The degree refers to the optics on the leds. You cannot change this, you buy whichever one you want. It refers to how wide or narrow the beam of light is. The narrower, the better penetration through your tank is. Boost par30s come in a lot of configurations and you can get really really blue ones, so that shouldn't be a problem. Search the forum for pics, a lot of ppl here are running them.

Thanks--with a 24 inch deep tank, I know penetration to the bottom is going to be important. The thing I like about these are the fact I can clamp them on the back or sides of the tank. Seems like a lot of flexibility. Putting them on timers should be easy enough. What about moonlights though? How would I go about adding those when using these lights?
