Why the hell did this thread have to come up now?!?

I was ready to go with a shallow sand bed in the tanks (DSB in sump and fuge) and now I'm after reading through this I'm second guessing my decision. I will be putting sand in the system this weekend, but may just put it in the fuge and sump area for now. That was my original thought then I changed my mind to sand and now maybe back... sigh.

    the good news is
you could add a dry sand bed at any time in the tanks future if you wanted
its a lot easier than taking 1 out IME

So start the tank BB, take advantage of the ability to syphon sock the base of the tank as often as you like to keep it clean

and if aesthetics or fish choices make you want to add sand at a later date, you can do so

avoid anything that qualifies as a sand sifter for obvious reasons
but other than that, the usual suspects for rock and glass/ acrylic attention

if you paint the underside of the tank before you fill it up
it makes it look better whilst you wait for encrusting etc to take effect

Cool, look forward to seeing what you come up with. Always liked the clean look of a minimalist BB SPS tank.
