    and give it a year with great conditions and a few chalices, zoas, or encrusting monitporas and you will have it mostly covered. the rest will likely be taken up by coraline in that time.

    its a minimal crew... you really dont need that much at all as the majority of a traditional cuc is used to clean the sandbed lol. Just get a few astreas, a few margaritas, and a few nerites.

    Ya, thats what I did.. I did not like the look of barebottom, I picked up some dry sand and added it to teh tank with a big spoon adding it to a large corner then spreading it around, did not disturb anything, other than cathing a few floaters there was no mess and I am back to a very thin layer of sand.

    The new 120 is likely going up barebottom. If I desire a sand-dwelling critter, I'll just put it into a different tank. (The previous is predicated on the assumption it's going to be an SPS tank). Going BB on an SPS tank is just so much easier.

    Don't it's always much better looking with aragonite sand than bare bottom and my fish play in the sand and dig holes I think they do it to annoy me.
