Ummm....if he was cycling, wouldn't that show up in the ammonia/nitrite/nitrate values? Assuming these levels were normal, I might suspect something else other than a cycle. Were any cleaning chemicals used on the tank? Was it rinsed thoroughly before filling? Are the water parameters the same as in the old tank? Changes in pH, temp, O2 levels, etc. may be stressing your livestock?

I seen that also, but I noticed he floated them. I wonder if he dumped the water from the bags into his tank or if he even acclimated them besides just letting them sit and float and then dropping them in.

wow.. thank you all for the replies... To answer everyone in this one post here goes...

When we upgraded my fish guy changed almost ALL the water... which I questioned and he said it was not a big deal because my rock is really what cycles, not the water.

The test kits I bought but never used most of them myself, the fish brings his own stuff and he does my tests.. He was here 4 days ago and said everything was good.

I am going to have him come back here on Monday to check again.

About adding a lot at once... yes that's true, but I did check with him and with 2 LFS's and they all said it wasn't bad, so I went with that.

Now I am wondering if they were all wrong.

Sounds like it... If you did that much water change.. and added that many things at once.. it had to cause even just a spike..

    Joe,

Your “fish guy” is an ass. He’s right and he’s wrong. The rock is what cycles but without a food supply (ie, your old water column) the rock will have die off and your tank will cycle.

Joe, please test your water again and post all the results – don’t just say it all tests well, I want to see what you are testing and what it is today. Like I said earlier, your bio-load took a huge spike and I was concerned you dropped in 100 gallons of new water, but now understand its far worse than that. Keep us posted please.

Also, did he match your temperature and PH when he made up the new water? I suspect not and it could take up to 4 weeks until your test start to show the cycle. Many, people move a tank (same stuff, tank and water) and cycle becuase it all gets disturbed.....
