I am planning to upgrade my 55 to a 90 gallon (first tax year with a kid pretty excited getting my hard earned money back). wanted some input on on line retailers for a tank that size. one of the 2 LFS here have one for $315 (tank) $290 (cheap pine stand). i looked at glasscages.com and like the idea of getting starphire on the front a side panels. think the total for the tank and the add on stuff came to about 815, plus 120 shipping. dont mind staining the stand myself. The one i "built" on petco came to about 750.

i am pretty sure i can get the one at the LFS cheaper, maybe just get the tank and get a stand somewhere else. it looks like it has been sitting in the store for years.

ordering one online seems kind of tough cause of the shipping deal. any ideas on a place to get a cheap tank within an hour of washington DC or Richmond would be appreciated

wfb2270 - moved this to the general section for now, as whilst it was in fish tanks brands and kits, it was not visible until approved

IMO, unless you're ordering something very custom, I'd avoid having it shipped. I work for a major LTL company and you can't imagine the headache that tanks cause for both the carrier and consignee due to the fragile nature of the freight.

Check out Fish World in Richmond (mine and GoToSleep's LFS). Also, we have a local reef club with several members having complete 90 g set ups, one is a very good friend. She just upgraded to a 250. PM me if you are interested. I can get you in touch with them.

Go to craigslist.com find your city and search there. If you have patients you can find steals like 120gal with everything for $500. I have seen 90g for $300

I paid 400 for mine with lights (metal halide) and built in overflow. found it on craigslist. All was new, the guy bought it, then got transferred before he could set it up and didn't want to move it.

yeah , i definitly check craigslist everyday. unfourtunatly a 90 is the largest i have room for, trying to keep the same "footprint" as my 55 with HOB stuff, with a 90 with an overflow so it can go against the wall. although it isnt that important i also kind of want a "new" tank and stand. i got my 55 used and the scratches and dings kinda bother me.
