I think everyone here has some good points. The original post holds true, but at the same time MaMoL's post is spot on. Not everyone decides to jump on forums before doing or getting into something. Heck I was even barely aware forums existed until 3Reef.
I myself came here, as a noob, having trouble. I thought I had done research, and prepared. I went out, got the "Saltwater For Dummies" book, read that three times over, visited the LFS on at least 5 times BEFORE I even bought a tank. Little did I know that the book was complete garbage, and my only LFS gets a little more excited in making sales than giving solid knowledgable advise. To sum it all up, everything I did ended up spelling disaster, even though I tried and did what I could to avoid that from happening.
When I came here, I had a mostly dead tank and was getting close to quitting the hobby completely. A bunch of experienced, polite people jumped on my questions and helped get everything straightened out. I know that 90% of the new people that come here, asking those same questions, are most likely in the same boat I was when I breezed into 3Reef. Therefore, I have no problem answering the same question over and over again, and doing so in a polite and respectful fashion. I know how much it helped me when I was in the same shoes, so why not pass that on to others as well?
So, basically, I dont let it annoy me. There's far more out there to get worked up about. Like extremely poor spelling and grammar ;) Even though I've been slightly guilty of that lately (typing with two broken fingers).

I think alot of it has to do with what you have in your tank to start with. Even after 2 months of getting my very first SW tank started, I STILL waited another month before I added ANY fish OR corals, and made sure all my water tests came up perfect. Then followed by close monitoring afterwards. Patience is key in this hobby.

I remember thinking that purple tangs were really expensive. I saw a very nice looking black tang at the LFS last week... only$700ea. Enjoy your new additions and good luck.

Patience is not something that is noted in todays world---everything is instant! It is not surprise that many people think it will happen overnight, our children have learned that from computers and other things. Please don't get me Wrong, but in my generation we had to use a slide rule for chem ---it took a while , no computers--so some of the problem I think is due to our society. Some times it is too easy to get an answer--you don't have to dug for the inf--sorry my spelling isn't too good--I was taught sight reading not phonetics. Thank goodnes for spell check!
