Well I've decided my 20 hex is a major pain in the butt with only about 15 gallons of water volume with rocks and sand and what not and it really looks silly with all this hardware all over it without a sump. (I URGE YOU TO GET A SUMP!  ;D )

So I was thinking of buying a 37 Oceanic cube tank. I think they are really nice and would look good open top with my halide pendant over it.

(I have a 75 as some of you know but the trim is busted and frankly, I can't afford all the hardware to set it up yet and I would hate to have to move it eventually.  :p )

Anyway, I can probably sneak the money for a 37 setup and it would be nice because the water volume would provide more stability than I have now and I could still use the halide I have over it. I would probably just need to make a sump and buy a sump pump.

It sure would be cleaner with just a overflow and a couple outputs from a SCWD. Any thoughts?
Anyone know of a commercial reef ready cube?

EDIT - Another reason to get a little bigger tank with this halide is that I am having major heat problems lately even with a coolworks probe. Right now it's 7am and my tank is over 80! I probably won't run the halide more than a couple hours today because of it.

I think that cube tank is quite a bit deeper isn't it? That woul really help with the heat. I think I am eventually going to put my lights on some sort of pulley device, so I can vary the height.

Sorry, I haven't seen any of those tanks around but I will keep my eyes open.

Well actually my 20 hex is deeper, but skinnier. Thanks for the reminder about adjusting the halide height. Mine actually is really adjustable (I have a crazy professional movie light stand - it's hardcore! ;D ) I adjust it now. [smiley=thumbs_up1.gif] Thanks!

HEY CHECK OUT WHAT I JUST FOUND ONLINE:

Hey Matt, I was checking out the Oceanic Cube (30G) when I went with the stretch hex (40G) the dimentions are 30 1/2 X 18 1/2 X 21 1/2 Nice size for a Reef I think. it is also open top with no center brace.
    Just a thought

Yeah that's a nice tank J. Prob is, I want something that would work with my 150w halide so I don't have to shell out major cash. The 40 would be pushing it, but then again, I was looking at a 37. Not much different.

Petsmart has the 37 for the same price as the 30 cube. $299 with lid, flourecent lamp and stand! I actually was just there .. but I really want black and they have maple and won't order me one - store policy. No orders. I don't get it. :p ::)

Thanks G. I'd rather find one that's black.. I'm DIY'd out right now.

Anyway, for the record, I'd like to say my 'major heat problems' turned out to be a 'major thermometer' problem. I'm pretty relieved. But super embarrassed. DOH!  ::) ;D

You using one of them stick on "digital" ones :)

FWIW, I've only been able to find the walnut version myself, thats why I stopped looking for that tank and got myself a 54 bowfront corner tank instead(mistake).

I don't blame you Matt. Those cube tanks are very nice indeed. You said that they wouldn't order a black one for you, that sucks. My Petsmart had a couple of those black tanks a few weeks ago. I'd asked them if they were going to get some more in, but as usual they couldn't tell me because they said that they didn't know. If you can, try a different Petsmart or even a PetCo.

Petsmart uses regional buyers/managers, (the people that think they know what sells and what the public wants), the store personnel and/or managers have no clout over the regional buyer/manager...if you can manage to get the store number and the buyer/manager's name you can email them and bug them until they do something. [smiley=disappointed.gif]

Having done quite a bit of retail sales in my day, I have dealt with these sorts before. For the most part they got their jobs because of some sort of leadership quality seen by the people who hire them. I usually don't see that in them but notice that they are aggressive, and to me, not overly knowledgable about what they are really doing. >:(

    Just one man's opinion!!!!
