I'm putting this in inverts since I don't know much about Pistol Shrimp. I've had gobies, so I know what to expect on that end.

Is there anthing I should be concerned about with adding a Pistol Shrimp to my tank? If I buy it separate from the gobie will they still team up? Is there anything in Reef tanks that the shrimp could hurt?

I really enjoy watching them together. I'm thinking of getting a either Yellow Watchman Gobie or a High Fin Red banded and a Red Banded Pistol Shrimp.

Apparently they can attack other shrimps, or so I've read, not first hand experience, and I'm also pretty sure they would match up if they find each other. Pistol shrimps are essentially blind.

So you're saying that looks aren't high up on the shrimps priority scale? ;) And, there are no other shrimp in my tank so that wouldn't be an issue.

A pistol will re-arrange your sandbed like you wouldnt believe. Especially around their burrow. Mine is constantly "cleaning" and bulldozing sand. Usually about once a week I have to blow the sand back down off of the rocks. I also have some peppermint shrimp and a cleaner shrimp and there have been no aggression issues.

They are a great combo to watch though. I was very lucky, mine picked a place right at the front of the tank to call home. So I get to see their antics all the time. Just dont put any corals on the sandbed near the burrow. They WILL get buried in sand.

I wouldn't worry about it hurting anything, except messing up your sandbed a little.

If it's not already paired up there is a chance they won't pair up but they probably will. For better chances do some research on what species the fish and shrimp are that naturally pair up in the wild. I'm pretty sure the ones you mentioned do pair in the wild but I would doublecheck it to be sure.

I think they are awesome to watch too, I love mine, I'd like to always keep some in my tank because they are really fun to watch.
