I am considering adding a valentini puffer to my reef tank. It's a 55 gallon, 20 gal. sump, PM RL 125 skimmer. I have a small yellow tang, two clowns, a yellow tailed damsel and a yellow watchman goby. I just want to know what people's thoughts are, preferably those who have experience with this fish. I am aware that they are not considered reef safe.

I loved mine before he decided to jump out of my tank. I would hand feed it ghost shrimp because of their small mouth. Very personable and cute. Great alternative to the larger species. Pretty, fun, and personable. If you don't plan on having a reef or plan on putting him in a well established reef where you won't notice a few nibbles here and there go for it.

Did you keep yours in a reef tank?

You can call it a reef if you wan't but I prefer to call it "WTF was going through your head when you aquascaped". I had a few corals and an anemone in the tank with it. The puffer loved the xenia and left the other stuff alone. Shortly thereafter GHA from hell hit. I have read on other forums of how theres was fine in their reef, but there are also cases where they destroyed other people's reefs. Just like people who keep koran angels in their reefs these have been up and running for years and take care of themselves. So you don't notice if a coral has a few bites off of it.

I have one in a tank with some xenia, shrooms, yellow polyps, and zoos.He hasn't bothered any of the corals but will nip at some snails.Ther'e are a few empty shells in the tank while others (snails) seem to be doing fine.I don't really know if he is the reason for they're demise, but I don't think I'd trust him with shrimp or clams.
