Thinking about doing away with my skimmer.

    I used to have a 150 tall... It sucked ass. I felt like I was going for a swim in the ocean every time a coral got nocked over or tough algae needed scraped. Forget about trying to catch a fish. You might as well break out a fishing pole

    I would not remove the center brace, personally. But I built a stand without a center brace using 2x4's. If you reinforce your corners with a vertical 2x4 and then place a header(on top of the corner support 2x4). Do this on the front and back. You should be able to remove the center.

    If you want extra support place a header in the middle too. Never hurts.

    I have pictures of mine but I can't figure out how to upload.

    The reason I know it will work is because I have a 5 foot tank with no middle supports. It doesn't sag or anything


    The 150 tall is possibly the worst design for an aquarium.

    Needless to say I will keep shallow tanks from now on.

    I feel the same way. I mean it can offer a cool viewing area but maybe for a fish only tank. Have live rock in it is horrible never mind with coral. Just a stupid set up all around.
