    Jake i just ordered my spectrapure proPLUS last night. I too have diatoms and GHA so ill let you know if RO/DI water makes a big difference as im sure it will.

    After reading the instrutions that came with my unit I found out that high iron content can be a problem,causing shortened membrane life.They state that a water conditioner would lower the iron level to a point that it would no longer be a problem.If your house is using a water conditioner it would probably be good to tap into the water supply after the w/c unit not before it.If youf well water is untreated it might be good to test for iron.

    I have another question. This will be my first RO/DI unit. Are they easy to attach and remove from the sink? I live in a small apartment and only have one sink.

    Thanks! So I think Im going to bring in some of my well water to my LFS and have them test it to see how bad it is.

    All membrane manufacturers recommend softened water for RO or RO/DI units. The softener does much of the work for the membrane so it lasts longer and performs better. Water softeners help with iron.

    The ProPlus or any unit is easy to attach and remove from a faucet. Spectrapure sells a quick disconnect at the bottom of the page here that adapts to about any faucet and snaps on and off so you don't have to screw things on and off each time:
