it is funny when arguments arise over a tang in a 55 vs a 90. i dont think the tang will notice the few inches in width and height difference. we take fish out of the OPEN ocean and stick them in small tanks.....55...90...125 regardless. no tank is comparable to the sea. now sticking one in a ten where it can just pivot in circles is basis for an argument.

i have a yellow in my 55 and just by watching the fish i can tell it is content, healthy, and happy. it calmly swims around picking algae off of everything all day.....he is only in there with a royal gramma, damsel, perc clown and 6 line so it is not crowded. having more than one big fish in my tank would be overkill.

Considering that, for the vast majority of tangs, 12" depth is less than double their body length, yes, I would be concerned, if the tang is any bigger than 5 inches or so.

I mean, most of the tangs you normally see (blue, purple, yellow, sailfin) are definitely bigger than 6" when fully grown. Give'm some room to turn around.

I agree though. The tank should be long, with the width being at least twice the body length of the fish...for a suitible, 'comfortable',environment.

Yeah....I mean, even consider it this way. The rock work is going to take up at least 6 inches of depth in quite a few areas. Any areas with more rock are going to be a pain for the tang to even reach to eat from.

I think it makes a big difference, around more then 1/3 bigger.

you look at a 55 and 90 and tell me which is bigger, the 55 my goldfish are in is WAY smaller then the 90 in my house.

fish don't just swim back and forth, they have swim bladders they can go up and down(although width is more important). My tang takes full advantage of the extra room. He grazes now where before he paced back and forth.

I can tell you have probably never lived in a small apartment or dorm, I will just say having a room that is 1/3 bigger is such a huge difference.

But for your tank, why not just keep the 75 & sell some fish back to the store? You could move your tank across the room if algae(sun increase this, once already occurring) is a big problem.

It would take some work, but that's what I would do.

i would not recommend a 55 gallon tank. i really hated mine, wish i would have gotten a 40 gallon breeder to begin with. the width is so much better to work with

My dad is a little anal when giving away fish. My 75 is 32" high, you know how a PITA to work with? The tank is in the kitchen right now, no where else to put it. You drop a coral, your SOL, drop a rock, SOL, dead fish, SOL, fish hiding in rocks, gotta take all the rock out. My empty 55 is sitting near the bedroom where it gets no sun light
