So i guess im not the only one. I was lucky, i didnt have allot of problems, a little battle with hair algae, a fish got sucked up a power head but thats about it. For me its more of a money and time problem.

Where do you all find the time to take care of your tank. I have 2 kids (2 1/2 and 8 months old) and they take up most of my time when im at home and once there in bed i have to do the regular things around the appartement, and thats beside my job so after all of that im so exhausted that i just want to go to bed. Maybe ya'll have some tips or tricks for me?

My second problem is the darn cash not to say any other bad words. Having only one income (my wife stays home to take care of the kids) were alittle tight on money. I know its the choice we made but its whats best for our kids (we think so anyways and thats what counts right?). I have had my tank for a while now and it still looks empty cause i dont have to money to buy stuff to put in it. Right now i dont even have the money to buy salt to make a water change and god knows my tank needs one i just lost an anemone on sunday. Pisses me off!!! I know i dont have the best setup and i would like to make a switch soon. I have a 120gl just sitting in my parents basement, but i will need allot of cash to set it up, need a stand, canopy, sand, LR... well you get my point. So i just dont see when in the future i will have all the cash for that. I could just go smaller, my wife has a 20gl that we started up a couple months ago but it still needs a couple of things that we dont have the cash for anyway.

So im at a point, like Fishez, that its either to suck it up or throw everything away. (and get land hermit crabs ;D)

So Fishez, i feel your pain man. Karma for you.
Im with you on this one. I dont want to highjack your thread, just share my similar situation with you.

So what do you say we suck it up and give it another shot, can you imagine not having that nice tank to look at.. i cant really.

    Marc..

Every morning I make my breakfast and go sit on my little couch that is 3 feet in front of my aquarium and eat. I watch the fish swim by and look at the corals swaying in the current and after about fifteen minutes the food is gone and I don't even remember eating it. I sit there and sometimes talk to the wife about what we can change or buy next (when the money is right). It's hard to imagine what it would be like without it.

My children are older than yours Mark but they never stop taking up your time ;D I just hope it gets easier also.. That's what I keep hearing. Tonight I scrub the rocks again with the toothbrush, (hair algae) I'm glad the Cyno is backing off. Once again I feel your pain and had to interject my thoughts. Maybe we should start a group therapy session... Joke :p
    Give it some more time.

I can see where you would have an issue with time. I don't even have any kids and sometimes its a problem just taking care of all my critters as well as the tanks . (2 Yorkies, 2 Cats, 2 Sugar Gliders, 3 tanks, 18 fish. At least I'm in a position now if I need to stay home to take care of something I can but 99.9 % of the time I'm at work. I can't even imagine a one income family. I didn't think it could be done these days.

Karma to you for sticking with it when it would be easier not to.

Make a positive out of a negative. This way you will be able to take it slow and eventually end up with things the way you want it without making a lot of the mistakes that many of us did because we got in too big of a hurry.

Don't give up,  we've all been there.  If you still have your 30g tank set it up as a hospital tank an put all your fish in it and treat with fresh water dips and copper, although some may disagree with this. Then let the main tank go fallow for 8 weeks!  Ich needs fish to survive.  I would use seachems cupramine for copper.  My 120g tank had an out break of ich even though I quarentine my fish.  I used cupramine because it is used at lower doses than other copper meds,  My puffer did just fine in it so it seems less toxic to the fish. If you use this product get a sea chem copper kit it will make dosing much easier. Make sure the hospital tank is bare except for a few pieces of PVC pipe to give the fish some cover. Just take it slow and get a good skimmer instead of the P.O.S modified skilter and take it slow.

Thanks guys. It's very hard to only have one income but we try to make it work. I dont know about you guys in the U.S but here in canada, im the only one i know thats giving it a try. Everybody else has 2 incomes comming in. Anyways... thanks for the karma. And your right about taking it slow but it just sucks to see an empty tank. I have all my setup drawn up in my head, some parts on paper but cant get the cash to do it... i guess ill have to wait it out and go piece by piece.

Diver : i know about the kids thing, how it wont get easier for a while... Just wait until there teenagers . Oh and im up for some group therapy sessions. we could make it a week long thing somewhere buy the sea where its hot so we could go diving in the reefs. ;)

    Thanks again you guys

So Fishez, whats up? Did you take your decision yet? Hope your keeping your tank. I think i will.

    Marc.
