Fishez...I haven't been here in a while because I too gave up on the hobby. I mean, I still have my tank running but I haven't preformed a water change in months. I don't feed and every once in a while my wife cleans the glass. I spend most of my time working on my quad and building my new one. The hobby was fun, but I realized...its only fun when you are building. If you just stop building and tinkering with it, it isn't fun. And since I only had a 54 corner tank, it was filled and finished quick. ;D

I have been trying to decide what to do with my tank, sell it or just let it keep running. I keep thinking of just performing some water changes but I just find other things to do...lol And now that we are making some home improvements on the house, I don't think my tank will be getting any attention. A cichlid tank sounds cool, got any pictures? I have thought about just doing a nice planted tank. I mean, I have the lighting and the filter, its just that my tank is drilled and not sure how that would look on a planted tank or how that would work.

If that is the only reason you are in the hobby, perhaps you should 'sell' your gifts of building and help others by doing tank plans, installs and upgrades , etc. I could tell by your pics and post that you have meticulous plans and systems.

I also keep birds, and there is a quote from somewhere, and I can't quite place it, but it goes something like...

That which you take from the wild, you are responsible to for life

I truly believe that, and I am in the hobby for the love of all things living. I really don't 'love' the building aspect. Altho, I don't hate it either. But I would much rather stare into the tank, what makes this one tick...or that one....or telling my daughter about the ocean and the importance of it and care of it and all things living and made by God. Or seeing the look on someone' s face when they ask 'what is that blue flower' and I say, Oh, that is a clam! ;D I don't keep the newest, latest and greatest creature....I keep what I like and can accomodate. Clams, LPS, a few select softies, and a couple fish.

Hopefully folks considering this hobby will see this post and look into their hearts, and perhaps decide NOT to get into it for the wrong reasons. :)

If you feel the way you do, you should get rid of your creatures to a good home where they will at least be fed and not starve to death or die in polluted water.

My wife won't let me sell the tank, she says that I have too much time and money invested in it...lol

I just ran into a lot of problems with this tank...maybe that is why I am acting the way I am towards it. A 54 is very easy to light and I have a great filtration system on it, but I just can't figure out the flow. I have a mag9 as my main return but that is no where near enough flow for the tank. I do have a maxi jet in there also, but there are so many dead spots, it ain't funny. I can't stand a bunch of powerheads everywhere in a tank but maybe I will scrap the glass and perform some water changes...who knows. Maybe I will pick up a decent power head...no idea. But for now I am working on my house, we are doing a lot of remodeling.

Hehe...it all boils down to the flow , doesn't it!

I have 2 Tunze turbelles in my 58 gallon, plus a maxed out 800 gph overflow and return! ;D

I just got an ozone generator and ORP monitor and just hooked up the monitor...ORP without any ozone addition yet is 310 mv! I attribute the good number to the flow!

Birdlady, last night I checked on everything and it all seemed to be fine. I feed the fish and they were happy, gonna get back in the habit of dosing a feeding on a daily basis. I need to pick up some RODI filters today so I can perform a water change. Need to do about 5, 5g water changes. I can barely see in the front of the glass because the coralline has completely covered it. Guess I should scrape that off so I can see more of the tank.

I have thought about going to a FOWLR for now. I am actually getting a UV in the coming weeks. So we will see.
