The macro algae portion of my refug is full of Cheato. It has grown like crazy the last two months. How often should I trim it? How much is appropriate? The macro section of my refuge is about a 14"x12" section of a 20 gallon tank.

I remove it in small amounts then let it grow to fill up again. I usually only take out about a fist sized chunk.

I've been wondering the same though so I hope a lot of people post.

I think I will take out half and let it grow back.

I guess new growth would be beneficial just don't want to lose the critters that live in there. Maybe I can find some way to put it in DT long enough to allow them to move to the rockwork.

I heard that cheato needs to be able to roll/turnover occasionally in the flow. Not sure if that is true or not.

I don't have mine turning over or anything, it just sits there and the flow goes through it. When I take some out, I take out about a fist sized at a time, but I may take out more to let it regrow.
