    And what are your parameters/tank inhabitants/size of tank? Cheato obviously photosynthesizes, but needs "dirty" water, if you will, to get the full nutrients it requires.

    Also, what is the photoperiod of your refugium? Most plants/algae need periods of rest to complete the photosynthesis process. I think that is when they are converting the co2 inside, but i don't remember the whole process....

    one of the key things about a fuge is that the light stays constantly on. while this isnt required it does help maintain pH levels better and keeps the macro thriving. also, i would actually remove chaeto from the BOTTOM of the bunch and then turn the whole bunch over so what was in the light before is now below. this utilizes chaeto that was light deprived and you are getting rid of the algae that could possibly be dying. good luck!
