A new member of my local reef forum posts that he has all this in his tank. This is his reply after I noticed a Yellow Tang and what looked like an Emperor Angel.

"Yes there is a Yellow Tang, and 2 O Clowns and a Juvi Koran Angel. I will also be adding a sailfin and another type of tang this week. I do plan on going bigger in the next 6 months at most. Probably sooner depending on how I can con the wife into allowing me to go bigger. I plan on upgrading to a far better filtration system with protein skimmer. At this time I do 5 gallon water changes weekly. All water tests come in very nice. 8.2 pH, zero on the ammonia and Nitrites, and sub 60 on the nitrates. Working on getting the nitrates down some more. I have added some stuff to the existing filter to help with that. I will let you know what the results of that are Sunday before the water change. I am curious myself. Those results will be the deciding factor if I do in fact add those two Tangs this week or not"

Anyone wanna guess what size tank he currently has? Or how bout we start with what size he SHOULD have... I've seen arguments on here with three to four times bigger tanks than what this kid has.

Tell him to upgrade the tank first not the fish.Life happens and if his wife puts her foot down those fish don't stand a chance.Remind him these animals don't come off an assembly line and there is not an endless supply. More people should be cautious imo when they keep any creature captive. We owe it to them.We are supposed to be more intelligent.

38gal... Here is his response to me laying into him. I'm assuming the "experts" he mentions are the ones at his LFS selling the fish to him LOL

"I'll take all that under advisement. I guess the large Angels and Tangs I have seen in tanks smaller than mine haven't been doing well for the 10+ years I have seen them in there...

My intentions are to go to a 6 foot tank. They are juvi's and I will trade them off as they get bigger.

Don't run me off before I have had a chance to get comfy here. It's funny that you say that when literally dozens of pro's and highly experienced private individuals have told me so long as I trade them out as they grow, they will be just fine. I guess everyone has their own view and opinion.

It is also recommended that a King Air 200 shouldn't fly off a 3000 foot runway. Yet I have done it successfully over 2000 times in the last 3 years right here in Titusville. "

He should stick to being a Pilot.

Some people love to "Take a challenge" when it comes at the hobby's expense. He's trying to challenge the rules and doesn't understand the basics, thinking his guy selling him the fish knows best.

My GF is the same way, if she had it her way, we'd have 3 yellow tangs, a sailfin tang, butterfly and what else did she want, ah who knows what else in a 65g tank. hahaha.

Some people will never learn, some people will have to do it themselves to learn. That's the unfortunate part of a hobby involving living creatures.

The scary part is, this guy is probably "advising" new people with issues they are having.

I was going to guess 30 like civic. We were pretty close :) it's unfortunate - if the guy's a pilot, he can't be a dummy - too bad he's not open to listening to input other than what he wants to hear :(

Some of the most foolish people I have met were in aviation with me. Several of them are now dead.

There is a good portion of truth to this. When I was in the military, We used to call the pilots in training "lawn dart jockeys". They didn't appreciate it.
