Well SF, I recently had a series of injections for some overseas travel that never eventuated and was warned of similar reactions, that's why I was interested and did a bit of a search.

What you described is quite common it would seem and is a reaction due to the procedure and the volume of Iodine rather than just an allergic reaction to iodine in particular.

Does any of that make any sense?

    John :)

My aunt had the same reaction to that dye....she is just not allowed to get the dye. Also, my best friend is allergic to shellfish and also cannot get the dye so there is a relationship with shell fish. (shrimp, lobster, etc)...they contain iodine. Watch for those food items to cause reactions. Also, if you have a small reaction to a food item it can get worse each time you eat it...so be careful.

Best thing to do would be call your doctor and ask them....and wear gloves like Craig said!

Also, you said, the nurse said
" tell everyone of this allergy due to cardiac and pulmonary failure that can happen the next time iodine is administered"

DO NOT let them give you this dye again! The reactions can get worse each time. It is called anaphylactic shock (severe allergic reaction causing swelling of the airway and suffocation) and it can kill you!
