Ha! Yeah that would be crazy. Fixed the typo, CA is 360. My MG is a bit high though--I want it around 1400.

Thanks for the condolences. I'm bummed man. They were doing great, adding polyps. Now I saw the little bastards (whatever the critter is that ate my zoas) running around the tank after lights last night out becasue their meal was gone. I have a pink streaked wrasse on order, and I am hoping he will hunt the little bastards down once he comes in . Now I am just being vindictive!

I will start my update with a question: does anyone know if molting is related to the lunar cycle? Over the last three nights I've seen moldings from some pods, a hermit, and shrimp. It was a full moon last night so just curious.

The tank is going along just fine (knock on wood). I've avoided posting a FTS because the tank is still very much in the uglies. I've been playing with my photo period a bit just to make sure I don't get into trouble down the road. So here it is, green rocks and all:

One of my reefing buddies showed up today for a beer and brought me some free frags to boot! Here is a nice little setosa frag:

And here is a green birds nest. This one is not looking so good. It has some tissue recession, and honestly I don't know if it will make it. He had it on his sand bed and probably not enough flow. I've got it in a good spot so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the tissue will stop receding and it will recover. It hasn't lost any polyps yet so I hope that is a sign it can heal.

Last addition is this purple blue tip stag I picked up at the local LFS. It is starting to color up some and hopefully it will continue to. I really hate the green rocks by the way...

The only other issue I'm keeping an eye on is some algae that has sprung up below the poci. It could just be some hair algae, but I've got a sense it could be bryopsis. I'm gonna keep an eye on it, and may pick up some M Tech just in case I need to try and boost my mag above 1600.

I have seen a little growth in my periwinkle Monti and poci, and here are shots of those today:

As always, thanks for following along, and happy reefing!

Nerites will escape a rimless tank and go walkabout so if you find one in your sock drawer you will know why.:)

I know, right?! It was very kind of him. He is the kind of reefer that believes if someone gives you a free frag, you grow it out and frag it yourself, then you should pay it forward and give those frags for free too. It is a good philosophy, and I will practice the same.

HA! Yes, this is very true indeed. For now my screen top is keeping them in the tank and they haven't tried to bust out yet. Once they get bigger I may need to find another method to keep them in the tank.

Also, I lost power last night for about 10 hours from a nasty storm. Threw in the batter powered bubbler just to be on the safe side. The only thing I am really worried about is that BN frag, since it is looking rough to begin with. I will check on it tonight, but I can't tell if the tissue recession has ceased or if it continues.

No pics tonight, but I will in the next week or two. Been focused on packing for our move from our condo to a house the last several weeks. The tank is holding on, but not in the condition I would like. Here are the key items of note:
My green birds nest is nearing its final days on the earth. As I mentioned when I got it. She was having some stn. For a while there it looked like she might recover, but sadly has continued to decline the last few weeks. At this point my only hope is to successfully frag a few of the healthy tips and see if they will take off.

Other issue has been nutrient control. Luckily no cyano, but I did have some serious HA growing on the back wall. After watching my params and seeing mu phosphate increase I bit the bullet and bought an IM desktop fluidized reactor that I just installed tonight. The media bag where just not cutting it. I hope to see some improvement. I want to leave enough for Chester, but not so much as to over grow things

Otherwise things are growing:poci, Monti, and stag. The colors are not quite where i want them and I think it has something to do with the phosphate. I will see if the reactor helps.

Plus I gotta start making plans to move this tank to our new house in a few weeks. We will see how this goes!

    Happy Reefing

    Wishing you an easy move.

It's been my experience that smaller tanks just take longer to get in the groove. Four and half months is really not very long.

In the future I am not adding any sps until coralline algae is well established.

Again good luck with the move. ;)

Yes, I am beginning to believe in the theory. My tank by no means is bombing, but it is on its own timetable as it relates to stabilization. I think the fact that it is a nano contributes to that as u just have to get everything dialed in "just so" with less room for error. Plus, it always takes probably a good six months at least just to get a feel for how ur equipment works together and tune it in.

I like the concept of waiting until coralline is well established prior to adding sps. I just don't have that much patience, lol!

Most importantly you are absolutely correct that at 4 and 1/2 months is still very much in the settling phase.

I will say though that my setosa is doing great! Great color, noticeably growing, etc. also my stag is in crusting like crazy, so it is doing well. I'm still curious to see how it colors up. As of right now it is a purplish brown. I just hope it continues to purple up more. My Monti cap is growing as we'll, but the colors are more subtle than other specimens I have seen under t5's.

Finally, the birds nest was really a lost cause to start with. It had lost a lot of tissue and I hoped just a new tank could help it to turn around. Ah we'll. hope I can get a few small frags that survive.

Thank u kind sir! I think I am ready and since it is just a move of a few miles that certainly reduces risks.

Last note, when I went to the LFS to get the reactor I saw a stunning red planet that reminded me of your coralline! Yes I was tempted, but restraint was certainly the better part of valor as I left it at the store. Maybe after the move settles in and it is still around....hmmmm.

    Have a good night friends!

Birds nest always did poorly for me so I am hardly one to give advice on that coral.

I can say that I killed a good number of sps initially trying to keep them in young nanos. Once the tank stabilized I had success, but nanos and sps need daily monitoring unless you get it totally automated with ATO, dosing pumps. Damn the of allure of sps, lps and softies are soooo much easier.
