I have a guy who had a modified one he is looking to sell (skimmer and mag9 for $150).

He said it was running on a 300gal tank...?

    Thoughts?

    His text below....

Just wanted to see if you were still interested in the skimmer.

Let me know. I still have it if you're interested. $150

I didn't like my EV-120 when I had it...and I ran a 9.5 on the 120. I would think you'd need a bigger pump to run the 180. For $150, it is a good deal, but my overall thoughts on the AquaC line is it is an underachieving skimmer, and takes up a lot of sump real estate.

I'm pretty sure that's not a 180. It's the next size up my 180 is only 20" tall. Maybe that's a 240 or a 400. I got mine with a mag 7 for 50 bucks used and it runs great on my 75. Ask him how tall it is and then run a search on aqua c sizes or look at marine depot. They will tell you how tall models are. If I'm right down the road you may want to consider upgrading the pump. I'd buy that for 150 though. It's a good buy if you have room for it

Yeah should be a 180. Looking at that pic it's bigger than mine.
There's a lot of opinions on the aqua c series skimmers. Some love them some hate them. The water level in my sump Is higher than the gate valve so its quiet to me. Some people say its noisy. I keep my water level inside the skimmer about a half inch past the black box into the chamber and I have to clean my collection cup every two days. I assumed at some point that would slow down but it hasn't.

I'm still new to the hobby, I don't know. Maybe start a thread on comparing the two skimmers and you'll get more feedback.

The SRO would destroy the 180 hands down in ability, efficiency and size.

That is not an EV180. It is some sort of knock off with either a beckett or venturi injection. I don't see anything Aquatecture did that would make it outperfom a real EV180. It might be OK for a FO 210 but don't expect reef water quality.

AquaC protein skimmers are great skimmers but due to their design, if you don't understand the way they work you will most likely see poor performance. Most poor performance is due to the water level being too high which chokes off the air and the user buying the minimum rated pump just to save money.
