Tonight I noticed thousands of these black/clear bugs crawling all over my LR and sand. When I put a flashlight on them they retreat back into the LR and run like hell on the sand. Are these bad. Hope not because there are a SH** load of them..... :-/:-/

could be pods? If so, then they are a good thing.

I can't be sure really, I'm new to this and my live rock and sand hasn't seemed to produce any yet, either that or my fish are eating them faster than I can spot fthem....
You're best bet is to post a picture if you can, and someone with more experience will give you the definitive answer.

more then likely they are pods...very good!
Welcome to Essential Live Feeds! Buy Live Copepods Here!

Probably did not get a chance to see them close enough but did they look like this....

Good source of food for your tank!

You will start to see all sort of stuff coming out at night that looks alien like....which I enjoy doing! Majority of the stuff are harmless. Just wait until the tank is a little older

For the other person who says they dont have any...Im sure you do just dont see them...if you used either live rock or live sand. If not you can get Tigerpods or a little chaeto and you will have a ton.

In my mantis tank that nothing in there eats them, I must have a gazillion of them, at night I turn on the flashlight and the whole back while is white!

I am jealous. I am going to say pods. It is a good thing. If you wish to have a manderin goby, you could probably get away with it. How old is your tank?

Tank is only 5 months old. I was concerned because at one point I noticed a bunch of copepods on the glass squirming around and they were white (bleach white) , but these are clear/black in color.

no manderin unless you have something that will replenish them, like a refug, and even then I would wait a while longer. A manderin will pick those things clean in a day or two...maybe a week. You will be amazed how much those guys eat. I had 1 in my old tank and he did well but I had cheato and he was eating frozen food. I am resisting the urge to get one now and I have a refuge and have placed Tigerpods in there and everything but know my tank is not old enough yet (my reef tank)

Let them multiply more..I love mandarins and can not wait to add one

Are they bigger than copepods? Maybe amphipods. They change color based on what they eat, so if you feed them plankton they are green, if they are eating detritus they get gray almost black like.
