I have had my pistol shrimp and YWG for about 2 years and the shrimp NEVER stops digging tunnels. If possible, add a handful of small shells or crushed dead coral pieces to the top of your sand. They LOVE grabbing small pieces of rocks, shells, etc. and dragging them into their tunnels. You do have to be careful about any corals that might be sitting on the sand because they can get buried. Plus they can cause rock shifting and cave in's if your rocks aren't stable.

I am thinking of getting a pistol in the future, but will they dig through eggcrate? i used eggcrate under my rocks but have a good 2 inches of sand over it. I dont mind if one breaks a few pieces of eggcrate, but i dont want all the eggcrate under my rocks smashed up.
