    That's what I was thinking..

The overall space needed is 12" x 12". The main cylinder is 6" diameter. It looks to be about 18" - 24" tall.

What about a slightly more unusual layout to the same old general setup?

That's not too far off from what I had. Just fill in my "wasted space" with more fuge.

I like it. What are the dimensions on that?

Whatever you need them to be ;D

I'm just throwing out ideas; you can make the ideas work for your particulars.

:) That will do it. I think I will stay with the 30" x 18". Now I have a mega-fuge. :) Will it be a problem with the "L-fuge", of having the weight of the sand pushing on the 2 inside walls? I hope not, because that's the way I want to go.

No labeling this time. I think you guys get by now. :p

do the pumps for the reactors really need their own compartment? cant the pull from the same area as the skimmer? im asking because im in building a sump too and want all the same things, but with only 3 compartments. also, isnt it really important for the fuge area to flow directly to the return to maximize pods getting to the DT?

sorry if this seems like a high-jack, but you guys seem to know more about this than me. also my concerns may be the same as urs. TY and good luck buddy!!

Thanks. :) I don't mind. My questions are pretty much done.

No, you wouldn't necessarily a separate compartment. Sharing one for the reactors & skimmer is fine. I think my fuge should be ok. Though Idk about the actual pumps for them. I will be running my reactors off of the return pump. The OF should direct the water to go towards the bubble trap & then to the return. I don't see a problem with it.

The reason I drew the design with the separate compartment was to use the same set of baffles for both the skimmer and the fuge (sometimes needed, depending on the level of microbubbles resulting from denitrification). The extra, separate space for reactor pumps is just a bonus.

There'll be a larger number of pods flowing to the DT from the increased area due to the L shape than there would be when making it straight to the return section. Most of the pods that end up in the DT are stuck in the current. The pods can also live inside the return/reactor pump sections for a period of time; probably decently long (if not with a sustained population), as microalgae would likely end up growing in that area from the fuge light and there shouldn't be too much flow to overwhelm them.

Seano, were you talking about the skimmer compartment walls from the DSB? I don't see a problem with it if the edges of the inside walls are cut with a 45 degree bevel. It would definitely be a concern of mine if they were cut straight, though.

Um..this part is confusing to me. But yes, I meant the two inside walls(or skimmer walls, in your drawing/return walls in mine) from the DSB in the fuge.
