I have had my pair of black clowns for a few years now. But this year I don’t know why but the female has been chasing/beating the male into a corner in the day but at night they sleep in the same stool. This has been going on for a few months now. Lasts Thursday during feeding time he was nowhere to be found. I cough that one up as he finally escape her in death** cough** I mean he must has pass somehow.
But here is where it starts to get strange, feed time on Friday I seer her just laying/hovering in the corner of the tank where she would chase him, when I feed everyone she swam to the top grab a pellet and swam back to the corner and spit the pellet out and just stay there. Every time I check the tank she was in that corner, Sunday feeding time was a little better she ate but she just wasn’t herself ( if one can say that) after eating she went back to the corner. Today I wake up looked in the tank and she has ick. Could she have stress herself that bad over his death? Is that even possible?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Clowns can go through periods of aggression even though they are paired. Rarely though the female will decide the male is not worthy and she will kill him hoping another superior male will take his spot.
After my male jumped my female mourned for probably 2-3 months , I actually thought she might die.

Sorry for the loss, once you have had them for a couple years they are part of your routine and life.

I was sure my female would not make it another day, she went without eating for almost 2 weeks after the male died. It has been about 1.5 years since the male jumped, she rules the tank still. Good luck I hope she pulls through. My clowns behavior convinced me that animals do indeed mourn.

Just to make sure something else did not contribute to the males death though I would check basic water chemistry and be on the look out for disease, especially if you have added anything to the tank recently.
