I've been using RC for almost 3 years and am thinking of trying something new and better? Anyone with experience going from RC to another? Suggestions?

I personally dont have any experience with any salt other than RC, but have heard that aquavitro salinity is very good. they guarantee certain levels of the elements. Also, it is packaged to mix at 1.026, so when it says 225 gallons, it means 225 gallons of water mixed at that level. The only downside to the salt that i have heard of is that it can be cloudy when first mixed.

    aquavitro . salinity

General rule of thumb: never switch salt brands. I found this out the hard way and lost my whole entire (very established) tank.
Your already with RC so stick with that or else go with instant ocean. I highly recommend not switching.

Very interesting. Ive heard of people experiencing some issues when they first switch but never anything that drastic before. To what do you attribute the crash to? What salt were you using originally and what salt did you change to? Dont mean to side track this thread but that is crazy!

I use Red Sea Coral Pro salt and I have had good results with it. I would recommend it. Seachem Salinity salt is quality, but its price and availability make using it on larger systems difficult I can imagine. I know a couple reefers who use it and have had great results however.

i tied several different salts always go back to tropic marin, i have been trying their bio salt, with that salt you have to turn your skimmer off after a water change for a few hours,or your skimmer will over flow, both the TM salt mixes i have used mixes fast and clear every time. measured levels look to be even. I'm no scientist and just take readings after water change.
i tried salinity and hated how it mixed and added a film to my tank after water changes. i feel there is no excuse for that. i got the oh your mixing it wrong. haha i don't think so, no matter how it was mixed this hazy film appeared . i would never buy it again.
red sea pro was a much better mix than salinity. oceanic has high calcium levels, good salt though. but none beat tropic marin.

Do you have issues with your salt? If not, I would not fix what is not broken! As we all know stability is key with coral reefs, and changing salt might just throw off some of your levels. RC has been great for me, is priced well, and is readily available. Not trying to get you to stick with RC, just stating their might be issues. If you decide to switch, keep us posted to how it goes, and if your levels are affected.
