    Cleaned out the skimmer thoroughly.

I ran the skimmer using vinegar/water solution and allowed it to skim this for a good 30 minutes and another 30 minutes just water.

Placed it back and already skimming:

Looks like its foaming right along ' Did you notice any results from the soaking as for the performance of the skimmer ?
For what ever its worth never dilute vinegar to clean any marine equipment. Its hardly acidic enough to work full strength and thats allowing it to soak overnight. I try to soak all my stuff twice a year in like i mentioned Lime away or CRS or better yet Muriatic acid is what I prefer. Try to keep a 5 gal bucket of that always . I soak 1/2 my stuff the first time then 6 months the other 1/2 then its a semi annual rotation after that Really keeps pumps and skimmer and reactor working properly . Oh and the above mentioned chemicals will not harm the equipment or tanks animals . Just rinse them all well before putting back in use.

It's working just great, just like it worked when I first set it up.

It really wasn't that encrusted with any form of hard build-up. It just needed a good cleaning over. Used a sponge to scrub inside the unit and used my hands for those hard to reach spots. Rinsed out a couple of times and then ran the thing with the vinegar.

I've noted what you've said above regarding the cleaning solutions and will look into buying some for future use.

    Thanks.

ps: By the way, how's the healing process coming along?

Thats what I meant when it was mentioned about when to clean a skimmer someone mentioned .. But its so Gradually the skimmer loses effectiveness its really hard to see until after a good soaking and cleaning.. When i ran skimmers with a feed pump I soaked mine as I said every 6 months set them in a bucket and run it full blast with the acid .. Like I said I got this Bullet 3 free and it was less then 2 yrs old :) Guy said it was not working well as it did .. We run out tanks at such a high degree of hardness it reeks havoc on our pumps and such equipment.

    Thanks for asking
Healing is not going as fast as I or the Dr's had hopped for or would like to have it go.. But Its coming along.. Just back in 2002 I had a woman hit me head on killed her and crushed my legs up and it was 4 yr process to just get back to walking and then this. Body can only heal so many times .. This one was just 3 broken places last time it was 57 broken places in my bones and that was just to the ankles feet where just taped up to many to count I was told.. ): so to me this one was just a burp LOL But to the Joy of some and dismay to many I'm still here LOL

    Tangster,
Glad to hear you are coming along fine. A question regarding the use of muriatic acid. I have some muriatic acid (31% by wt concentration), do you use full strength or do you dilute that and in what concentration?

    Thanks

Stronger the acid the faster it works With what you have you could dilute it 50/50 with water or even 25/75 to water . If you understand how to mix the acid and water together ? You put the water in to bucket first then pour the acid in never pour water into acid. And wear eye protection.. You can get a weaker solution at Lowe's and places like that for the Job also that can be diluted ..

Remember when mixing any concenrated acid with water pour the ACID into the WATER !!!!!and mix it slowly..WEAR EYE PROTECTION

Thanks Tangster! I seem to remember from my chemistry class (long time ago) that you always add acid to water and never the other way around.

If I understand correctly, I just soak the skimmer in the diluted acid and run it overnight. Thanks

Depending on the strength of the concentration hrs may do ? In a straight Vinegar soak overnight may well be needed But with what you have at 50/50 4 hrs probably will be enough and just enough water to get it running is all you need . And you have to adjust the time of the soak on how it looks I'd say..:) Yes never pour water into acid I saw a tile mans helper make that mistake once :) But I once broke a frozen 5 lb block of lead from the frozen ground and put that into a molten 50 lbs melting pot I did that Just once!!!! MYSELF never knew hot liquid lead could fly that high or far!! LOL
