It is a dry heat, yeah right !
My tanks have had algae issues a few times over the years. The tanks latest issue is newer tank algae issues, but when I have algae growing out of hand I either get an Urchin or an Abalone, Liveaquaria has both. Both are bulldozers, so you have to be aware of that, but both have been effective for me numerous times. Once the algae is gone I just pass the Urchins and Abalone to someone else with algae issues.

Phosban takes a couple weeks to really set in but I notice an improvement in a couple days. You do not need a reactor to run it.

I also run a higher mag, for me it helps. A lower SG and Mag often lend themselves to algae problems for me, no scientific back up.

Another twist to this problem. Would it be better to use an Algae scrubber or a refugium to clear out the nitrates and algae resulting from? o_O

They both would work, but I prefer a refugium because it is less messy, provides a safe haven for microfauna, and it increases your water volume that can improve stability.

Have you heard of the AquaFuge2? It's a refugium that hangs on the back of the tank.
