Timed Skimming??

or the collection cup is too high (or water level in skimmer is too low) etc.



Anyway, I put a sponge before my return pipe to catch the bubbles... now I don't worry about it.

 

+1 on the comments that suggest other ways of reducing or getting rid of the bubble problem

a skimmer that does not collect much, may mean the tank does not have much protien based waste to collect, or it might mean its not set up efficiently

the danger with 12 on 12 off type arrangements is that skimmers take a while to start producing foam, and just as it is starting to operate efficiently, you switch it off again

I would try the fine tuning as indicated by the posters above, and also , what skimmer is it?

it is a current recirculating skimmer. produced lots of skimmate while tank was getting reestablished so i dont think the problem is with the skimmer. fine tuned it a lot in the last month or so. no sump so i cant send it there first. there already is a sponge on the return pipe so that wont help. i'm going to try the 200 micron filter sock before trying the timed skimmer situation. thanks very much for the information everybody!

 

that would be the way to go. You are going to want the skimmer to work 24/7. turning it off for long periods of time can affect the skimming.
