timers

The ones above have a small battery built in so in case of power failure the memory is not erased. Here in Fl we have a lot of lightning power goes out many times and have yet to reset the time on my timers. Just another thought. Just had to go in and fix for dailight savings thats it.

 

I just threw my Coralife timmer out the window followed by about 5-6 shotgunn blast at it... My digital Screen just went all goofy.. then just cycled the lights when ever it wanted....

 

I just buy a new one every 6 months or so and return the defective one in the new box and tell them thats its always defective. Of course I always have to buy one first so everything has power constantly. Maybe coralife should fix them so they work correctly.

 

I bought a no name timer from wallmart about 2 years ago and never had a problem with it... It still cranking! I can imagine something that small being such a PITA... I guess its a hit and miss... Just double check the ballast in a normal outlet if you havnt already to make sure its not playing tricks on you!

 

I have used all three coralife timers, and never had them last more than 5 minutes. MH would blow them up every time.
Right now I am using a heavy duty outdoor timer from Home Depot. Works great and was $30

 

Those seem to be the best ones out there. I have two of them and they are great. 3 years up and running no issues at all.

 

I was reading on that digital timer from home depot...it says it has 2 receptacles. So does that mean you can have 2 separate things timed separately on the same unit?

 

I have one of these coralife dual timers. It slowly loses time .. maybe an hour per month.
It's years old .. I got it used. I like the way it's designed though. On one side I have my PC and other MH.

I have the hood style lights where you push the button in to start them, if I use a timer I don't think they will come on without re pushing the button. Will a timer work with these lights?

I have the same Coralife Dual (Analog) Power Center running my PC lights and working perfectly for over a year now. Maybe it's user error for some, or difficultly programming and setting the digital ones?
I also read the digital one's weren't good for MH, so I didn't get the digital one in case I want to upgrade lighting later.
Whichever one you choose, just make sure it's UL listed and placed out of range of water hitting it. The last thing anyone wants is a fire from a cheapo surge protector or timer.
