Tin, Live collection of coral and fish in Jamaican waters is highly protected

I would really check to make sure your not endangering the ecosystem.

    1. Jason, I have a permit.
    2. People down here fish with dynomite, so think of it as a protection program.

You are not trying to keep that sunburst coral in the tank that you are cycling are you ? And thy are a Pain in the butt to keep in that you have to keep plenty of live brine shrimp and rotifers to feed them with and spot feed them on top of that. Vary high maintenance. I kept a colony for several yrs that split and divided and grew all over a tank But after my auto accident I lost them .. I could not care for them any longer.. They need no light and no bright light at all. Open mostly in a dark cave or at night to feed. Alage will cover then fast also if the water is less then perfect.

    Ditto what Tangster said.
I didn't have much luck with them.
If you stay on top of feeding them, they sure are rewarding though. Maybe I'll try again when I retire and I'm home every day. ;)

The only way I've ever sucessfully kept an Sun Coral was to take it physically out of the tank and put it in an covered bowl (with it's dinner) for one hour at least twice a week- I've had them grow and prosper with this kind of attention but it was kind of a pain. They also seem to like shady areas in the aquarium-

Yeah, they are very high maintenance! If you don't feed them correctly...they will die! You can train them basically as I have found out by feeding them at a particular point in time during the day and they will open up to feed like clockwork. For instance I would feed them at night just before I would shut my lights off and they would open up for Rotifers and especially brine shrimp!
