In the past few weeks I been getting an abundant amound of tiny bubbles over alot of my rock as well as my snail and hermit crab shells. I can wipe them off and by the next day they are back. All parameters look good. What causes this and will it eventually go away. Thanks.

Sometimes I've seen the bubbles form on cyano. Do the surfaces of your rock have any redish looking algae on them?

Yea I have been dealing with a problem with red "velvet" looking algae lately. The bubbles appear else where also, but I had a feeling they were related somehow. Any cures?

Check out the Ultimate Nuisance Algae thread. I just started reading it a little while ago and it's scaring me a little.

Sounds like you have cyano bacteria. It's a bacteria and not an algae. Cutting down your feeding and increasing your flow usually takes care of it. I'm not sure how often you feed and how much you feed but yous should feed no more than once every two days. You may be able to benefit from adding another powerhead.

Yeah, they've got it in that thread but it is really cyanobacteria. Guess it just fits in the nuisance category so well. Anyway I'd do what pgreef says, the link I posted gives you some background.

Also, some claim flake food is loaded with phosphates. If you're feeding flake switch to frozen. I highly recommend Rod's Food if you can find it.

I only feed frozen food once every two days, but I have started using DT's for my corals and such. I lighty scrub the red "bacteria" with a toothbrush and my filter and skimmer cleans it up ( or so I think). I also about once every other week suck it off the rocks dircectly with small air pump tubing removing all that I can. I have no nitrites/nitrates, but I dont have a phoshate tester. Will adding phosgard to my filer media help?
