A few days ago I noticed what looked like a tiny piece of frogspawn floating around in the tank, then I couldn't find it anymore. Today I noticed it seems to have attached itself to my sun coral. If I look closely at one part of the frogspawn it looks like it has tiny pieces that are barely hanging on, you can sort of see it in the picture. Is this a way that it reproduces by dropping little parts off that will go elsewhere and attach themselves?

that could be one method. I always thought that they branched off from them main skeleton. my cane candy corals lost some heads a while back, and they were just floating around but they never attached to anything *snif snif*

Polyp Bailout is usually caused by a stressor of some sort. Euphyllia primarily reproduce by fission.

That usually happens when the coral is stressed or is damaged. It looks like it has been damaged, mine looked like that piece when it brushed against a rock.

my frog spawn does that but never had anything survive that wan't a large piece. Only one time when putting up new tank has larger piece survived. I think I actualy brushed it off with my hand.

Interesting. This piece is getting huge and has 4 main branches, each are starting to split into two more, which looks like it will soon be 8 branches, so if it's stressed it's putting up a good fight. Maybe I'll re-position it in the tank in case it is stressed for some reason.

    Thanks!

i recently had the same thing happen with my torch coral but mine had it hanging off the main branch's skeleton and had it's own skeleton with a tiny torch coral on the small baby skeleton and i just gave it a small rip and it came off and now it's growing on it's own with it's own skeleton.. sort of beats me on the baby torch has its own skeleton but i guess that'll remain a mystery for now as i will pay closer attention if it decides to frag again.. so now i have a torch frag with skeleton!! :p
i also have a frogspawn in my aquarium and it's branching small frags on the main branch like you guys described, maybe there are a few ways for them to frag :p

Well I'm going to pull this off my sun coral (can't be good for it) and re-locate it somewhere low flow where it might be able to attach. I'll keep you guys updated if it decides to live & grow.

throw a little super glue on there if you can. that will help it hold till it sets in
