I know as far as quality, hands down everybody says the MR1 is better but is it really worth all the extra money? Does it have any other advantages? I have no problem forking out the extra money if it is truly significantly better. If this makes a difference it will be going on a 20 gallon and will be eventually moved to a 55. I plan to run gfo and a little bit of carbon in it side by side. P.S. a guy locally is selling a TLF for 30$ with everything in the picture

I ran a tlf for a few years , upgraded to reef octopus reactors. Much nicer , doesn't leak , no foam to clog , hold more media.

Nothing some zip ties and some Teflon couldn't fix but yeah they do tend to leak IME
    But $30 with a pump isn't a bad deal

It definitely is a good deal indeed, I just don't know if I want to deal with teflon and zip ties haha...For all I know he's selling it because of leaking issues..

I've ran 2 TLF reactors for a quite a while; never had any problems whatsoever.

Iv read a lot about the TLF leaking too, but most of those were back in 2010. I'm assuming TLF changed something or upgraded the O ring to resolve this problem.

For the record, the TLF will always leak if you put the ball valve on the wrong side (only on the inlet; never on the outlet). You can't back pressure them; they're not sealed for that.
