Well running to small of a P. Skimmer would be bad for a tank I know that.

Im looking at getting a used MRC MR-6 skimmer for my 125g tank. I know it's overkill but will it work ok?

Yes, of course it will.. it just means you should upgrade to a 200 gallon tank ;D;D

I think the MR-4 is rated to something like 6-700 gallons, I think the 7 should do you just fine. I would almost be worried about removing *too* much from the water, keeping in mind that many corals and clams utilize whats being skimmed out as a foodsource.

When I bought my Bubble King 180, I was talked out of getting the 200 because it would be counter productive and that I would be dissappointed in the overperformance of the skimmer. If the skimmer is too big, it will pull trace elements out of the water as well. I generally try to leave about 50G overhead on the rating when I look into filtration equipment.

not sure I'd use another MRC product, I have their calc reactor and that thing is hell to keep up and working, I'm about to give up on it and just throw it in the trash spend more time working on it than it does actually working
