    Hi guys,

I'm pretty much new to saltwater tank, but I have done my research in starting one. I saw an advertisement on craigslist for a 5-years used 29 gallon biocube for $150
    http://images.craigslist.org/3F53L73J75L75J65M5cbde00fb0ea0dc01141.jpg

For the price of it, it seems like a good deal, but are the years on it worth it?

    Thanks in advance!

I vote no it looks in rough shape and seems to have signs of crashing with all the coriline build up.

Welcome to 3reef,does it have the matching stand? If so yes and plan on the cost of changing the bulbs, don't trust how old they are.But without the stand,I wouldn't,it still would need to much (stand and bulbs for starters) vs. the cost of a new one, plus it looks like it would be a heck of a clean up job.

I would offer them less than that and tear it down, clean everything which is pretty easy, and start from scratch.

IMO the cost of a new tank is really cheap vs the headache to clean and ultimately figure out if this new tank is ok. The piece of mind going with a new tank would be worth the little extra $ for that size tank. Good deals are to be had on Craigs but something like a fish tank I would errr on the side of caution.

You might do better checking out local reef forums and dealing with reputable hobbyists rather than a random guy on Craigs.

The offer was just lowered to $100. Still a good deal?? I already have a stand that can support a 29 gallon. And thanks guys!!

Since when did corralline algae = a tank crash?

My back wall is covered with it, and knock on wood, my DT/system has never 'crashed'

I agree it looks kinda rough, will be a lot of work, and may not be worth it though.
