I am a n00b when it comes to this hobby; this is my first tank and I started it in April 09, so I can not really explain what all the "life" is on the rock but here goes. There are a couple clams and several miniature flower looking things that are filter feeding tube worms? (guess) There are tiny green plants and magenta plant like things. It has what looks like amber colored flat mushrooms as well.

I had a large stone crab menace in my tank, I had to take a lot of LR out to find it hiding in a hole, I took the rock with crab in it, put it in my QT then put a tall glass with a shrimp piece in it next to the rock, next day, I had an uber crab! It was about the size of a half dollar and ate snails and a small fish! It had to be banished!! It may take time, I hope you don't have to disrupt your rockscape to catch it!

I would say this one is the same size or a little bigger, I meant to post the picture but I will today after work. He is a scary looking sob. I had no fish in my tank until last night, I had told my gf that we would get some fish and of course she wants nimo, the night before we were to get the fish, I saw this crab but went ahead and got the fish for her anyway. I have them in containers and won't release them until I catch this crab!

if you want that crab out of there add a mantis shrimp(smasher) and you won't have to worry about crabs anymore..........

Well today, I got really impatient, waiting to put a trap in my tank tonight. I went ahead and pulled out both of my rocks and put em in some 1030 + water and nary a crab was found. :( Do these things burrow in the sand as well? I didn't keep the rocks in the hyper salin water for too long, may I have been too impatient?

He could have moved, but I suspect he is in the rock you think he is. Keep with the glass jar and you will catch him.

Yup, ugly little bugger isn’t he. Get a piece of raw shrimp in a jar and place it near that rock so that he can climb/fall in. You will catch him and then give him the proper Crab funeral – that would be the one fingered salute and a flush.
