To late to paint tank?

Not sure where to put this. I went with the roll on back ground for my tank. But it is a pain. I have enough access to the back of the thank, so I was thinking about painting it black. My question is with water and fish already in it, is it to late to paint it. Im worried about stuff leaching threw the glass and into the tank.

 

I don't think anything would leach through. But if you're using spray paint, paint will get into the water. I'd go with latex paint and brush it on carefully when reaching the surface of the tank.

 

i agree with siddique , it shouldnt leach through. if you got room, a roller is prob better and get a more uniform coat.

 

Tell me more... I have seen tanks with the stick-on background that look great. Is this the same stuff that is giving you problems?

It the stuff that comes on the roll at petco. I used some water to put it on, stuck very nice, but as it drys more the edges start peeling back, then more and more every week. Plus when the top edge peeled back alittle, some salt creep dripped down the back, now I have a white streak going thru it. Just gonna paint with a roller and be done with it.

 

Never gonna happen. Anything you put on the outside of the glass will never make it through the glass. There's a small exception, extremely strong (and hot) fluoride acids. Those would probably kill you as well... so it's a moot point.

VOC's from any non-water solvent based paints may cause OTHER problems, but nothing leaches through glass without destroying it.

Latex paint should be fine, just don't spill any in the water.

you could use black Vainal (sp) (it's like a sticker For Cars) you could get it in rolls thats what i used sticks on like paint wont fall off like stick on paper from death co. and it can be removed if you dont like it

 

Nothing better than paint in my opinion.
