I have a 55g tank. 48" long. I had one 700gph pump going on one end and the two filters running around 250gph. Yesterday I bought a 950gph pump for the other end and now my water is cloudy as heck. I can see where the sand has been pushed around a lot. Is the 950gph to much along with the 700 ? I had the 950 pointed downwards. Thanks !!

I had way more flow than that in my 55.
Try pointing the 700 slightly down and towards the front of the tank, and the 900 across the middle with it pointing so it agitates the surface. You can also get something like the hydor smartwave and have alternating flow which would be more beneficial than just blasting both at the same time.

nope, thats about 40x turn over, and those filters are prolly not pushing 250 around, so really its only like 33-35x. which is choice. dont point any of them down, if anything, lower their placement in the tank and point them up or straight across

Ok. I didn't think it should have been to much. I'll move the around and try that. I unplugged the 950 to try and get the tank to settle then I'll turn it back on. Thanks for the help and quick response.

I'm running a 900gph pump on my 60 cube. The pump is split off powering two BRS reactors too so it's not blasting my tank.

Everyone already answered, but when all 4 of my powerheads are on, I have right around 4,000 GPH flow in my 55! No sandstorms at all since they are all pointed middle or up.

Yeah I have one on both ends pointed downwards. Guess I was creating a tornado. Lol. Oh well. You live and learn.

I have the same tank as jborlace, a 55gal that's 4ft long. I have a 1150gph at one end and a small 240gph at the other end to create some turbulance. Is it a good idea to have the flows directed together or at different areas of the tank?

It all depends. I just watch my corals and if they are moving in a more random fashion, I am happy with that. As long as they aren't getting a constant blast, they should be ok. There are a few exceptions to the rule.
