I have a 20 gal tall tank, with a 10 gal sump/refugiums. I plan to make my main tank a half and half tank. My question is should I get a protein skimmer? If so what is a good size to get? (at some point I plan to get a clam or two also)

I personally dont skim as i only have a 30 gallon and no sump, and i think skimmers are big ugly and noisy, and without a secret tank and cupboard to hide it i would end up throwing it in the canal that runs just below my balcony.

But if you have a sump go for it. Go for one that exceeds that cap of your tank

Skimmer optional. Just be prepared for increased frequency and amount of water changes.

Very simple to do with that size tank.

I personally would not bother with skimmer.

Ability to keep clam entirely depends on lights. If adequate get smaller variety clam so does not over grow tank quickly.

    Have fun!
