I currently have a 55 gal. fish only (with coral replicas) and one of my last purchases (2 or 3 months from now) was going to be a Threadfin butterfly. I now am starting to re-think this due to the fact I am thinking my tank will not be big enough. At the this time I have 2 False Perculas and 3 Green Chromis. I want to add a Yellow Watchman Goby and a Friedmani dottyback (Orchid Dottyback) and the Threadfin. Is this too many fish? There are so many formulas out there to tell you how many fish you can have from 2 inches of fish per gallon to 5 inches of fish per gallon. I am still new to the saltwater experience and I am trying to plan ahead so I can be prepared for my inhabitants. Please if anyone can lead me down the correct path on this I would be very appreciative.....as well as my daughter!

Thread fin BF's get very big and will eventually out grow that size tank. I think you are approaching the limit of that tank.

I agree with Raven. With 7 fish in a 55 gallon tank, you're about at the fish limit now. Even though your fish are small, they'll get somewhat bigger.
I have a 45 gallon with 6 fish, plus a starfish, an anemone, and the cleanup crew of shrimp, hermit crabs and snails.

So the re-cap......I need to layoff the Threadfin and stick with the Clowns,Chromis, Goby, and Dottyback? That is more in line with what I was thinking too. Right now....I only have the (3) Chromis and (2) Clowns, based on what you guys have been saying "Close to the limit" I am now not sure if I need to get the Goby and or the Dottyback......any thoughts on these two? Thanks again!

The dottyback in my experience are way too aggressive.
Goby's are fun to watch, plus they are mostly bottom and rock dwellers.

How about a Royal Gramma, its a beautiful peaceful fish and are not prone to aggression or jumping out of your tank like dottybacks. I really like mine.
