A UV will only kill free floating algae spores and parasites and it will only do that IF you can get the flows to match the wattage of the bulb and the dwell time inside the chamber of the UV. I have never seen a UV filter with a specific flow rate that's accurate enough to fine tune it as such. The UV will kill some of the spores and parasites but not enough to be worth the expense (bulbs usually need to be replaced every 5-6 months and they're expense) and it's most certainly not going to solve any algae or parasite problem that you're having.

Ahh, I had not thought about copper dosing or other treatments. That certainly puts this idea in the round file.

Good points, I guess I'll look into setting up a mostly independent QT where I only draw water from the main system when I need to run it and then isolate it with a seperate circulation pump and basic filtration.

    Thanks all,

Any of you guys ever want to add anything to the systems to enhance the waters quality and clarity then go with Ozone you'll never regret it. Just hook it to the skimmers air inlet
