I went out of town for 6 days and when I returned my toadstool frag had shrunk to almost nothing. It looks like a frag plug with a booger on it. The crazy part is my pink birdsnest, and peach digitata were showing amazing growth since being gone. How can my sps be doing great and the softie melt away? I'm beginning to think my water is too clean. My xenia has not been happy lately as well.

    post a pic of it..

my toad shrinks up a good bit, mostly at night, during the day its cap is about 7" and stalk is about 4"

at night he shrinks to where he is about the size of a golfball, maybe a touch bigger, but not much.

I have the same issue, there doeant seem to be a happy medium in an established tank. Might be time for you to make a decision...

My tank is only 4 and a half months old.

And by making a decision, I'm guessing you mean pick which way to go. SPS dominated, or a mix reef???

Is there any rotting or decaying tissue? For no bigger than he is,he could shrink up that much when shedding or unhappy with location/flow.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
You know I think that is really strange.

There a tons of tanks with large sps colonies and leathers. A smaller tank I might understand but a 90 gallon. Usually it's the sps that suffer.

Just to quell my curiosity, how long had you had this frag?

Got any crabs? Was anyone feeding the tank while you were gone?

I have not noticed any actual decay. But then again, I was out of town for 6 days. it seems to have shrunk a little since being home, but havent noticed decay or rotting of tissue.
