Hi, I was trying to read up on some of the threads on leather coral. Mine was doing just great, now all of the sudden, it had this long hairy thing coming out of one of its little pores. I was concerned it was realising some sort of toxin, so i immediately started to test everything, and nitrites, nitrates, ammonia and ph level were all fine. So after watching it more closely it releases this hair like thing and then retracts it back in. oh yea by the way- its not "flowering" or opening up. So I went to my LFS and got some Rods food- hearing that it works miracles but still no change. Can anybody help me please.

My boyfriend and I have had a small nano cube for about 3 years and it is running fine but having this 75 gallon, and much more to toy around with makes me very nervous- I just dont want to mess anything up.

sometimes comb worms live under the edge of toadstools and at night you see a long hair with little hairs comming off it like a comb with its teeth.it's supposed to be harmless but the one i had died but my skimmer was'nt set up right at the time.theres no way to remove them.i would focus more on calcium alk and magnesium maybe.or nudi's flat worms.my other toadstool was closed 2 months until i fixed calcium, magnesium, and alk.now their great.they opened within minutes of balancing it.it cost me $43 for the salivert magnesium test kit though, ouch

It may be stressed out or something is aggravating it. It may be releasing some of its zooxanthellae, hence the stringy material. This zooxanthellae being released by corals is done for two reasons; the first being a result of trying to stay alive at the mercy of the zooxanthellae being disbursed. the second is a way for symbiotic corals to release one strand of zooxanthellae for another one better suited for the ambiant condition at the present time!
