Ok, so I have read a few related threads and this may be repetative, but I just bought a toadstool leather from the LFS, it was 45 bucks and looked great for the past few times I was in the store, I acclimated it and stuck it in the tank right near the surface for the best lighting, and now its got slime all over it...its also laying over...should I let it alone, how long should I leave it before worrying about it?...any help is appreciated...thanks

yep sliming and leaning over are normal, keep an eye on it and make sure it's not getting directly blasted by a powerhead show us some pics!!!! congrats on the new addition btw!

It is the natural process by which many soft corals are able to rid detritus, algae and parasites etc. from it! Once it sloughs, it will be bigger and more beautiful than before! As stated a good water flow, not overpowering, will help to lessen the chance of this happening which is not a bad thing!

here are two pictures of it, seems the base part has lost some size. is this normal? I am really worried about it. I moved it so it'd lean against a rock and be in better flowing water. water tests good, the PH was a little low the other day but I added some buffer and it brought it back, I added it slowly so I would not shock anything. maybe I should have added some zoanthids first before the leather...theres some slime scraped off in the picture from when I moved it, and it still has its pinkish color on the top so hopefully thats a sign that its still living. anyway let me know how it looks in the pictures

Looks perfectly fine. I have a few large toadstools and every few months they go through this. Like coral reefer has already said, the toadstool is sloughing....
